Another trip through the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) archives led me to the short film ‘The Wish’ by Martin Duckworth. Filmed in 1970, of the director’s 8-year-old twin girls as they play in and around a lakeside cottage and picnic in the cemetery with their grandparents, the film is mesmerizing with its beautiful film quality and wistful spirit embodied in the two mirrored sprites. A magical slice of a moment in time long passed, it is difficult to picture the girls today, grown, perhaps with children of their own, no longer existing in this snow globe celluloid fantasy…hope you enjoy this as much as I did…
