OLD SCHOOL | RHODA KELLOGG

mandela

…This Mandala designed by Rhoda Kellogg shows evolution of children’s non-pictorial into pictorial drawing…

Former psychologist, nursery school educator and child art collector, Rhoda Kellogg, is known for her passion and interest in understanding the early developmental stages of children’s drawing. Between 1940-1956, she has collected roughly one million drawings from children between the ages of 2-8. These drawings have been researched, donated and admired by many. Some books Rhoda has written on the subject can be found here.
Over eight thousand of these drawings can be found online at: http://www.early-pictures.ch/kellogg/archive/en/. They are categorized in such a way that enables you to identify the similarities and differences of a child’s drawing based on their age and geographical location.
Below are some images from her collection that include variations of the same form, and individual drawings that I loved! I’m still working through the lot, but so far have mega heart eyes for these “scribbles”, shapes and designs!
